Here is an interesting medal commemorating the deeds of Yasumasa Fukushima. He rode horseback from Berlin to Vladivostok in 1893. Wikipedia has a good summary of his extraordinary life. See HERE.
The medal itself is not an official government medal. It appeasr to be privately made, perhaps offered for sale during his years of popularity. The obverse shows him alone and on horseback, no doubt being a depcition of his journey.
The reverse reads 'Meiji 26 [1893] Fukushima Yasumasa, [??] Badge.'
Thanks to Richard LaTondre for introducing me to this medal. See Richard LaTondre's site here: http://www.thegoldenkite.com/
